Designing Strength and Endurance Resistance Programmes

Strength and endurance resistance conditioning can be conducted using
body weight, machines and free weights. Specific forms of resistance
conditioning exercises require special attention to proper alignment,
proper posture, and proper speed of execution, proper breathing
techniques and proper stretching exercises. Strength and resistance
training programmes adhere to the same general principles of training.
After completing this chapter, you will be able to:
Understand the functions of different types of weight training
machines – isoinertial and isokinetic machines.
Plan a holistic progressive resistance training programme for a
client who is interested in general condition for muscular
strength and muscular endurance, for muscular endurance and
for muscular strength.
Be conversant with the equivalent weight training exercises
using free weights – dumbbells, barbells and body weight.
